Beginner Here... Tips for icy slopes?

I am a beginner skier in the Northeast US who's having some trouble with icy slopes. I don't feel like I have as much control as I should and often have difficulty turning. Are there any tips for handling icy conditions or do you sort of have to treat it like driving a car and just go slowly and carefully?
