Favorite thing about Dark Souls story

It is optional. You can play through the entire game and not know wtf is going on and it's irrelevant. I want to beat the game, and it let's me. It's not till the second or third playthroughs that I stop to piece together what's going on. This is probably the real reason I can't get through the Witcher 3, there is too much work involved in going through everything....let me play!!!!!!.....and die...
