[WSIG] Strategic war/conflict game for 4-7 on a world map

WSIG

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a war/conflict game that will play 4-7 in approx. 2-4 hours. The game I am considering at the moment is Struggle of Empires, although I'm reading a lot of negative comments about the luck factor of the game (rolling for sea travel)

The few minutes starting at 9m40s in the video below where he is discussing the thought process of each nation when picking alliances is a really great example of what I'd like to see in a game - I'd like something where interaction on a map really counts, and you want to pick your fights strategically https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bETadWtYqFQ&t=9m40s

I've also considered the COIN genre and also GoT and Rex but I am not convinced since I'm not a fan of cards and actions that do extremely specific and arbitrary things, example below http://www.c3iopscenter.com/currentops/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/FireLake-SampleCards.jpg It just seems like added complexity for the sake of complexity

Elements that I would consider interesting are:

  • Alliances or semi-alliances

  • Negotiation

  • World map / map with real countries

  • Economy

===I have already played/own===:

Imperial

18XX

FCM

Archipelago

===I have already considered===:

Diplomacy

TI3 - too long

Here I Stand/Virgin Queen - too long

Eclipse

COIN - see comment above

GoT/Rex - see comment above

Fief 1429

Maria, Friedrich, Quartermaster General - Would like a game with more pieces on the board

Kemet/Cyclades/Bloodrage - not what I am looking for

Dominant Species - not what I am looking for

===

So really the only game I can think of right now that fits the bill is Struggle of Empires. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks all
