New to PC gaming question about peripherals.

Ok guys, here goes: I have always been a console gamer and never felt the need to waver. However, once I saw the HTC Vive I was determined to switch over. The games for the Vive are cool and I doe get immersed. I have been hearing that flight games and driving sims even further the immersion when you have a flight stick or racing wheel. Coming into the pc world I'm seeing there are LOADS of options for both. My question is: What makes a $400 Thrustmaster/Logitech wheel or flight stick better than a $100 one. Please, before someone says that I can find this on Google, I have tried to search that very question and variations of it to no avail. Any insight will be graciously helpful in my decision.
