Berry effect sticky to Pokemon?

I tried the new Berries with a Pokemon to test out how it's interaction with other berries work. Apparently, you can't use another berry when 1 is in effect. But earlier I was able to load up a Pinap and then a Razz Berry at the same time causing my game to hang. Thinking that my Pinap was wasted, I tried reloading my game and encounter the same Pokemon that I gave the berry to. The Pokemon still has the Pinap Berry icon with it. I was not able to catch it with the first ball so the icon/berry effect was removed.

Are berry effects now sticky or was it like this before the new ones were introduced? or... Visual bug with the berry icon still being with the pokemon after reloading the app
