mbrr1214's Mock Draft
Hey guys, I've seen a lot of people try at mock drafts and I decided to give it a go. I've done quite a few but never posted to Reddit except once in the Monday comment section. Hope you enjoy, I can't please everyone so please tell me how much you hate/love me for your team's pick. I'm open to all feedback. No Trades
- Cleveland Browns: Myles Garrett, EDGE, Texas A&M
A talent like Garrett is hard to pass up. With Nassib and Ogbah already at the EDGE position some believe the Browns just might. But you can't, a defensive front featuring Garrett, Ogbah, Shelton, Collins, and Kirksey is dangerous. There are still holes on the Browns but this is a great pick.
- San Francisco 49ers: Mitch Trubisky, QB, UNC
The QB spot is up the air but based on recent evaluations it seems as though Mitch Trubisky has put himself over the top as the #1 QB. Trubisky has decent mobility with consistent tools and good measurables. This pick could go any possible direction but I see Shanahan grabbing his future and going with it.
- Chicago Bears: Malik Hooker, S, Ohio State
I've talked to a lot of Bears fans about this. They like the front seven they have. When I ask about Jonathan Allen they give approval but when I suggest to them one of the safeties their face seems to light up more. The Bears have had a horrendous secondary for a long time. They've added some pieces in the secondary that are promising but drafting the best coverage secondary player could go a long way for the future of the Bears defense.
- Jacksonville Jaguars: Leonard Fournette, HB, LSU
This pick could easily change if they don't bring back Cyprien but at the moment the opportunity to select Fournette should be very enticing to the Jaguars. Not only do they have a young exciting offense (So long as Bortles plays how he ended the season with Marrone) but adding in Fournette creates two dimensions of exciting weapons in a division that's truly up for grabs.
- Tennesse Titans: Jamal Adams, S, LSU
Breathing a huge sigh of relief all Titans fans would be pissed if in this draft both Hooker and Adams are gone before 5. Adams is an exciting hard hitting safety who will fill in a huge weakness for the Titans. With hopes of competing for a playoff birth next year, the Titans address a huge need by selecting one of the best talents on the board.
- New York Jets: Sidney Jones, CB, Washington
Despite what most people say this pick ultimately comes down to who the Jets like. Marshon Lattimore may be the best all around corner but I think Jones height and the patience of the Jets not so high expectations for the season may be more willing to draft based on potential. Standing at 6'1 with quickness you wouldn't expect Sidney Jones has a lot of talent at the CB position. The biggest concern is his slender frame and ability to be tossed in press coverage but if the Jets can work on building up his muscle without him losing his quick motion, this is the man destined to take the role Revis is no longer able to perform.
- Los Angeles Chargers: Jonathan Allen, DL, Alabama
I apologize to all AFC West QBs, OLines, and OCs. You all must plan for protection of Bosa and Allen. Jonathan Allen is one of the highest rated players in this class and only fell due to lack of need. Although DL may not be the biggest need for the Chargers, it's big enough to where they can't pass up a talent like Allen if he were to fall.
- Carolina Panthers: Solomon Thomas, EDGE, Stanford
In any 4-3, Solomon Thomas coming off the outside is great. In a 4-3 with Kawaan Short and Star Lotuleilei likely in the middle, an EDGE like Thomas can feast. An absolute monster at Stanford Solomon Thomas had the ability to change the game for the Cardinals. With the additional pass rush the Panthers secondary will look better and as long as they address the safety position in free agency or following rounds this team could find itself back in the Super Bowl.
- Cincinnati Bengals: Reuben Foster, LB, Alabama
The Bengals have enticing options here, they could draft a corner to fill the need likely there with free agency and Pacman Jones regressing, they could stack the WR spot by selecting their favorite of Williams and Davis, or they could even get an EDGE to draft the position that they've lacked since the Michael Johnson before he left for Tampa Bay. Well Foster is the pick I made, the linebackers in Cincy are aging and slow and Foster had the potential to help cover that need. He can cover and stop the run and he is an extremely balanced talented player . Cincy should be glad with this pick and not overthink it.
- Buffalo Bills: Mike Williams, WR, Clemson
This is my bias for Tyrod peaking through but I hate that they're wanting to let him go. Even if he doesn't restructure I hope they continue to let him play. Adding in Williams to a receiving core that is often injured provides the team with a potentially dangerous offense if Watkins can stay healthy. Tyrod deserves an offense and I think a pick like this could finally give him a stable one.
- New Orleans Saints: Derek Barnett, EDGE, Tennessee
The Saints needs defense, Brees and the offense can compete but they need to get guys on the other side to change the game. Despite his flaws Barnett is a high impact player who you can't pas on because of things like short arms. Putting a line of Fairley, Rankins, Jordan, and Barnett together while returning a healthy secondary should give the Saints good hope for their defense to finally compete entering next season.
- Cleveland Browns: Deshaun Watson, QB, Clemson
It's okay Cleveland, you can swing. One problem opposite of teams drafting too risky too often is teams trying to play it too safe. Watson has his flaws that you may be concerned about but this kid has a lot to love. 2 national championship trips. A freshman year on a torn ACL. The ability to beat teams on the ground and through the air and also, the kid is just a good kid. Turnovers can be concerning but I believe he may have been trying to force throws to prove himself instead of just playing (which is common in prospects) and think when he's just playing in the NFL he will perform much better.
- Arizona Cardinals: DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame
Carson Palmer has informed the team he will be returning for the season but it seems to be pretty obvious that this will be his final season. The Cardinals can jump the curve and draft a QB to replace him now and Kizer is that guy. The make up of Kizer would warrant a top 5 pick but with concerns on his cement reads and losing record his stock has taken a fall. With QB whisperer Bruce Arians and Kizer's ability as a QB Arizona could be in for some magic in the Post-Palmer era.
- Philadelphia Eagles: Corey Davis, WR, W. Michigan
Finally, the Eagles have wanted to improve their WR play for a while. They've been reported to be searching for an elite WR for quite some time and the opportunity has finally become a possibility. The upside and ability of Corey Davis is incredible and if he can come in and do as expected then the Wentz-Davis combo could be a scary duo for years to come.
- Indianapolis Colts: Takkarist McKinley, EDGE, UCLA
Maybe most drafts don't have McKinley going where I have him in this draft, but I feel it's well warranted. McKinley will entice scouts more with his impressive 40 times at the combine and UCLA pro day and has a work ethic and energy that never ends. Technical form flaws are listed as his weaknesses and those can become hidden in workouts. If the Colts believe he can be high impact then expect the "reach" to be made.
- Baltimore Ravens: Marshon Lattimore, CB, Ohio State
The CB position is so impressively deep this year that a talented player like Lattimore could very easily fall this far. Teams likely won't leave it to fate to trust the CB they like will fall to them in later rounds but if they do like CBs projected to go later they may not select Lattimore due to lack of scouting. The Ravens however jump at this opportunity and bring in one of the best players on the board at a position of need with pick 16.
- Washington Redskins: Malik McDowell, DL, Michigan State
Upside, need, talent the Redskins get a great player in my mind. I think McDowell is a high level player who has a lot of improvement still to make. The Redskins will likely sign Cousins to a long term deal and it's safe to assume their offense will be highly productive again. Their defense will need to improve by either drafting FS or moving Breeland to FS and drafting a CB. I think they go Justin Evans in the 2nd round and address a need in trenches here.
- Tennessee Titans: Quincy Wilson, CB, Florida
The Titans dip back into secondary for their second pick of the first and its perfectly acceptable with a talent like Wilson on the board. Standing at 6'2 with a great year this year. Wilson has physicality teams will love and quick reads to make great plays. Florida has a very strong track record with cornerbacks and Wilson could very easily continue on the good name.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Dalvin Cook, HB, Florida State
Lots of enticing options for the Bucs here who are trying to build to final get into the playoffs. With Doug Martin likely done as a Buccaneer, filling his hole with Dalvin Cook would be more than okay for many Buccaneer fans. Cook is both effective in the run and pass game and could only add more volume and efficiency to the offense already in place.
- Denver Broncos: OJ Howard, TE, Alabama
Despite need at offensive tackle, John Elway won't pass up on a prospect this good. OJ Howard showed how valuable he is during his days at Alabama with how often he was held in for the run game but then was released to show how dangerous he was in the pass game as well. Denver has solid options at TE but a player like Howard is hard to pass up, and I doubt they will.
- Detroit Lions: Jarrad Davis, LB, Florida
The Lions need linebackers. After a good bounce back season there's good reason to be excited for the next upcoming year. With a high powered offense and good young pieces on defense. The team must continue to build the defense in order to get the best production out of the entire team. Bringing in Davis provides this team with a centerpiece to
- Miami Dolphins: Haason Reddick, LB, Temple
Another riser, Reddick is a guy who can set the edge and play linebacker and the Dolphins need both. Linebacker is the biggest need with Wake still able to set the EDGE. With the Dolphins entering the season back in the playoff hunt they need impact players and Reddick can be.
- New York Giants: Ryan Ramczyk, OT, Wisconsin
The Giants have a few positions of need but fixing up the offensive line is the best choice at the moment. EDGE and DL have much more depth in this draft if they lose JPP or Hankins.
- Oakland Raiders: Zach Cunningham, LB, Vanderbilt
I like Raekwon McMillan more but apparently his stock has gone way down so I'll follow the people. Cunningham is still a good linebacker and the Raiders are close to being Super Bowl contenders. Assuming Carr comes back healthy and plays like he did before the injury then the Raiders are going to be a tough team to beat.
- Houston Texans: David Njoku, TE, Miami (FL)
Not necessarily the biggest need for the Texans but for talent available and upside Njoku is a good pick. I think if the Texas get a new QB it is by signing Romo or Tyrod Taylor and not any rookies.
- Seattle Seahawks: Cam Robinson, OT, Alabama
Debatably the top offensive tackle in the draft. Character concerns have never stopped Seattle before and that won't change now with the desperate need at the position.
- Kansas City Chiefs: Pat Mahomes II, QB, Texas Tech
Alex Smith isn't a bad QB, but he's getting old and there are just some things that hold him back. Enter Mahomes who is a QB with raw talent you can't teach. Now put him with a smart accurate Short Game QB. Mahomes can learn the game through a smart vet and eventually take over and give Andy Reid something he's never had before.
- Dallas Cowboys: Taco Charlton, EDGE, Michigan
The Cowboys may go CB here depending on free agency but the need is EDGE. Charlton is a good defensive end who works well is a 4-3 which the Cowboys run. With already a talented young group adding a young talent like Charlton just helps the rich get richer.
- Green Bay Packers: TJ Watt, EDGE, Wisconsin
A good fit and need for the Packers as Julius Peppers will likely retire. The Packers bring in the other Watt who is being drafted on much more than a name.
- Pittsburgh Steelers: Carl Lawson, EDGE, Auburn
Pittsburgh loves drafting upside and with Lawson at 30 there may be no better pick. Lawson is a beast on the field with explosiveness and strength to excel in both a 3-4 and 4-3. Lawson's injuries are his biggest concern and Pittsburgh has the talent to be able to roll the dice on a high risk high reward player. With Dupree coming into his own late in the season adding another great edge could elevate Pittsburgh to an even better level of play.
- Atlanta Falcons: Forrest Lamp, OG, W. Kentucky
The Guard position is up in the air for who is the best. I personally like Elflein. A lot of scouts prefer Feeney, but based on hype I think Lamp will have hottest stock come draft day and with Chester being a weak spot of the line the Falcons quickly fix the weakness and create a strength.
- New England Patriots: Ryan Anderson, EDGE, Alabama
When it comes to the Patriots 4 man rush. They often require their EDGE rushers to be strong in their ability to drop back into coverage. The offseason free agency for the Patriots will be a major tell for what the Patriots will actually do. With Logan Ryan, Martellus Bennett, Donta Hightower, Jamaal Sheard, Chris Long, Andre Branch, LeGarrette Blount, and Malcolm Butler (restricted) all on the open market. The Patriots could be left in dire need to reload. Obviously there's not too much concern with Bill at head coach but this may be his most difficult task yet.
