Is farming albumen pearls still an effective way to gain units?

I've been gone since August, so the Foundation update is completely new to me. I'm still short on cash and need a way to grind up so I can get 'caught up'. Has anyone found a better way to farm for units, or should I just suck it up and grind pearls?

Edit: When I made this post, I actually had no idea that you could make literal farms of stuff, I thought I still had to find a radioactive planet and sprint around finding pearls and dodging the sentinel dogs.
