Joel needs a new alias and this is why...

Disclaimer Please know that I am not writing this to criticize Joel and his work in any way, but rather offer a suggestion to the somewhat divided fans of the deadmau5 community.

I've been a deadmau5 fan for a while now and I've come to notice that many deadmau5 fans (mainly the older ones) are having a hard time accurately determining what to expect from Joel's work and inspirations. What I mean by this is that if deadmau5 were to announce a new album, my expectations are all over the place as to what it will sound like. Part of me will expect experimental new sounds, while the other part of me will be hoping for some older inspirations (RAT2 maybe?). And in the end, I'm admittedly left disappointed because I just didn't know what to expect.

The main reason why my expectations are thrown off is because lately I've noticed a "Techno" side to Joel and I desperately love the enthusiasm he throws into his Techno sets. It is no secret that he has been diving into the exciting world of Techno lately. If you take a listen to his BBC Radio 1 Residency, 90% of the tracks he plays can easily be categorized as Techno.

February BBC Radio 1 set

His Techno influence also shines in his home sets/live streams that we all watch. Take a look at a few of these examples.

Perosnally I fucking love this new side to Joel. I thoroughly enjoy the songs that he's playing and I can't wait to listen to his next "Techno set". But I must admit that this is not the deadmau5 that I know. That is why I am suggesting that Joel creates a new alias or starts a new label to explore this Techno side of him more in depth.

Ultimately, I would love to see Joel start something similar to what Eric Prydz created with his Cirez D alias. We all know how much Joel makes fun of the DJmag top 100. Well I would argue that it would be really cool to see Joel's alias rise on the ResidentAdvisor top 100 list.

We're all deadmau5 fans here (some older than others) and I would love to hear your input on this idea. If you disagree with me, please tell me why. Thanks all!
