[Discussion] Free app that plays motivational sounds

I’ve made an app called RUNDOM (available in iOS and Android) that allows users to listen to motivational (or demotivational) quotes when relaxing, working or exercising.

There are 2 ways to listen to the motivational quotes:

  1. Listen to quotes per X minutes. This is useful when the user is inside the house or gym.
  2. Listen to quotes when the user is running or hiking. When the user clicks on the Start button, the app generates random locations and when the user gets close to a location, a motivational quote will be played.

As a user, you can also upload your own motivational quotes to motivate other users. For now, you’re limited to record a 10-second quote.

The main reason I made this is that every time I run a half-marathon (i ran only a few), I see these signs/posters made by spectators to cheer up and motivate runners in different parts of the race’s route. These signs really motivated me during those races. However, if I’m running by myself, I can’t really force my family or friends to cheer me up on my 1st or 5th mile, so I was thinking, what if I build an app that just plays motivational quotes from strangers or people that I know to keep me going? My kids asked me what if nobody uses the app? My first answer was at least I will learn a new coding platform. The second was that I’m going to force them to use the app to motivate me all the time.

I had no idea how to make iPhone or Android apps but I’m OK with C#. So I started learning Xamarin to develop the app. After months of learning, coding and testing, here’s the first version. This is a free app but you can enable more features and remove Ads if you want to. I’m sure there will be bugs so please let me know. I’m also open to suggestions/comments to improve the app.

Here’s the link to the Rundom website.

I have more features coming in the next few months so I hope you find this app useful and please contribute by uploading new quotes.

Thanks!
