FoxNews's Shepard Smith joined in on the Fake News Trump bashing today and it reveals much about why we despise dishonest reporting

I had to turn off FoxNews after the President's press conference today because I felt I was being lied to. Shepard Smith went on a very aggressive rant about Trump, furthering unsubstantiated rhetoric about Russian hacking and Trump's motivations.

Shepard Smith: "And then he says Russia is a ruse. It's fake news, the leaks are real but the news is fake. So that's impossible. He's saying that the information in the leaks is accurate, after all, it's the reason he fired Mike Flynn, right? Well he says he fired Mike Flynn because ... it's very confusing"

The liberal media is trying to spin this narrative so hard it's sickening. The narrative is that because Donald Trump has criticized leaking of classified information, then the information in the leaks must be true, and therefore the conspiratorial reporting by some in the mainstream press must be accurate. As if Trump then shouldn't care if the leaks are dishonest.

This is an absolutely illogical assertion which only serves to try and justify faulty reporting. Trump never said "the information in the leaks is accurate" or that what CNN and others are reporting on is based on factual information. This is Smith buying into a general liberal hit job based on faulty logic and twisted rhetoric.

If Smith wasn't so eager to pounce on Trump with his liberal narrative, then he might not have been confused about what Trump really said. In fact it was CNN's Jim Acosta who asked him about that very point in the press conference. Trump answered Acosta saying among other things that "the reporting is fake", that he sees "many, many untruthful things", and refers to the "Russia scam" as well as the media's hateful tone. Trump did not say what Smith said he did. Smith's reporting today was #VeryFakeNews.

You can watch Trump's interaction with Acosta here: President Trump vs CNN Reporter.

Shepard Smith was putting words in Donald's Trump mouth and even became flustered in his own rant, cutting himself off saying he was confused. What Shepard Smith said was, using his own language, demonstrably false. Smith, in accusing the President of lying, straight up lied to you and me, and ironically demonstrated the exact behavior for which the President has been criticizing the press.

FoxNews should understand their audience better. We do not want to watch the President make points about why the media is guilty of dishonesty, only for an angry reporter to exhibit that exact behavior. If Smith wants to play into that type of reporting, I believe he would be better situated at a network whose audience desires that, like CNN or MSNBC.

At the very least, Smith could do a better job at holding back his bias and emotions, unless he wants to declare himself "not a journalist" and start to describe his job more honestly, like Sean Hannity does. Pundits like Hannity, O'Reilly, and Maddow all speak to viewers conversationally outside of journalistic reporting, and now it seems Smith is doing the same, while trying to hold the mantle of a journalistic reporter. I would expect Smith to report on the news with less subjective narration. FoxNews' motto is "Fair and Balanced", but does that mean that their reporting (the show is called Shepard Smith Reporting btw) is fair and balanced, or that they balance their conservative leaning evening shows with daytime liberal leaning shows? I would not doubt if Smith eventually goes the way of Megyn Kelly.
