System Design Help: have 5 solar panels on 3 roofs (east, west, south) and need help with wiring the 5 charge controllers to 2, 12 volt batteries.

Here is the system set up.:

  • 5 solar panels (Canadian Solar, 275W, 38.3Voc)
  • 5 charge controllers (Morningstar Sunsaver MPPT, can charge either 12 volt or 24 volt battery bank)
  • 2 batteries (12 volt, 245 AH, AGM LA)
  • 1 inverter (Outback GTFX 3524)

The two batteries are connected in series to form a 24 volt bank. 3 charge controllers go to one battery and 2 charge controllers go to the other battery. So right now the charge controllers think they are all each charging a 12 volt battery.

Should I change the setup to where all 5 positive lines from the charge controllers go to the positive terminal on one battery, and then all 5 negative lines from the charge controllers go to the negative terminal on the other battery?

What are the pros/cons of this setup? I know the charge controllers will read the batteries as a single 24 volt battery bank in this setup as opposed to individual 12 volt batteries in the other setup.
