[Secret] The Absence of Suu Kyi (Project Lotus)
During a sit-down interview with one of the country's top reporters, Yu Aye Eindra Yee, the State Councilor admitted she suffered depression that pushed her to avoid the public. It was no easy feat to overcome it, but Suu Kyi was able to, all while serving the country, which Yee found amiable.
The interview was both personal and political—personal, with her admittance, and political, with her discussion of the planned improvement of public health, most especially mental health. However, Aung San Suu Kyi had left quite an important part in secret.
Lotus flowers were known in Buddhist culture as plants capable of cleaning the dirty water they were placed in—the lotus effect. And the State councilor thought no better name could be given to this secret project of hers, The Lotus project.
During her 4-year absence, Suu Kyi formulated and executed a plan on how to fight the dire corruption within her government... with blackmail. It was fighting fire with fire. She knew doing it through legal means was not going to be effective as she been trying to do this for so long, so instead she thought of changing her approach, and did a Machiavelli.
She put up a group of spies and detectives, even hiring some from international agencies to get dirt from almost every public official, each of which, corrupt. There were line tapings, hacking, seduction, stalking—it was a dirty job indeed, but in the end it was all worth it. The State Counselor had, in her hands, numerous, numerous file reports all to her disposal.
One by one, she went after them and turned them into her puppets. She demanded them to return the money and properties they stole, to discipline their subordinates, to do whatever she asked them to do. Every evil official started to fear the sweet Nobel Peace Prize winner, but they knew they couldn't do anything about it.
It was a dangerous move, and Suu Kyi knew that—she was basically grooming herself up for an assassination. And so to keep these officials in line, Project Lotus was shared to her most trusted subordinates.
Power and influence was back in the State Councilor's hands, and Myanmar was on its way to end corruption.
