Games where you build up your team?

I'm looking for games for a friend. He loves games where he can manage and build up teams of characters. Games that seem to really scratch this itch for him are Madden, Pokemon-style games, and Dragon's Dogma. He also really likes Orcs Must Die.

Suggestions?
