How do you deal with PCOS without birth control?

The doctor i went to absolutely refuses to prescribe me any and I'm not sure if getting any by myself would be a good idea considering how there isn't any authority figure I could get quality advice about it (Ultra catholic country with no divorce or abortion). What are some ways I can do to deal with PCOS and its effects ? I would really appreciate some advice.
