example of RP behavior overcoming the odds
Hi everyone-
Long-time lurker, first time poster (using a RPW-specific account because in my circles, this sort of philosophy is profoundly frowned-upon). Hope I'm not violating any rules or norms with this post, but thought the community might enjoy this story.
A male friend of mine (known each other for decades, practically a sibling to me) is in his mid-20's, and has basically over the course of the last few years become a major, major catch. He's started working out, becoming ridiculously buff, makes 7 figures, has converted his new income into fantastic wardrobe, apartment, etc.
Best of all he has (for a variety of personal reasons) stopped dating women who exploit his extremely giving, naturally commitment-seeking nature. He's become incredibly confident, alpha, etc. Obviously has NO trouble enjoying EXTREME amounts of casual sex with gorgeous women.
Here's the great part of the story: he is in a very happy, committed, long-term relationship with a woman in her mid-30's. In our (Asian) community, as obviously in most people's, a woman's youth is highly prized; I'd argue it's maybe even EXTRA prized. People were quite shocked this woman 'managed to bag' such a guy, but when I asked my friend about his new relationship, the answers were really telling:
- She makes his life easier
She does a million little things that have, over time, made her indispensable to him. She knows what food he likes to have stocked around the house, she uses her professional expertise to give him good advice on deals, etc.
-
She has stayed incredibly, incredibly hot and well-maintained
-
She not only treats him with total respect, but she has always conveyed an attitude of total self-respect. She isn't apologetic or embarrassed by her age, she can straightforwardly and honestly explain why she hadn't met any men up to her standards previously to marry, she didn't exhibit any of the neuroticism that tends to accompany women frantic about their aging. In short, she didn't seem at all desperate (and I truly believe she wasn't).
They've got a great relationship (serves as a reminder to me to be a better first mate myself to my man, frankly) and I think it's a perfect demonstration of how much a woman can do to increase her value to a man even if she has some conventional disadvantages.
