Logistics for using movies/TV? (VPN services, which shows, subtitles?)

I did Duolingo for about 3 months before switching to Pimsleur. I'm now about halfway through Pimsleur, and I think I need to start using TV/Movies to really make this work. I considered using a Rotten Tomatoes top movies list to pick which French movies to buy, but then I got to thinking: are some movies/shows better than others for the purposes of learning? So I have these questions:

1. Can I use a VPN to use my USA netflix account to access a bunch of French content instead of buying individual BluRays?

2. Which VPN service is the best? I don't just want to give my credit card to any random VPN site. Who's reliable?

3. TV or movies? Which is better?

4. Which shows or movies should I use for learning?

5. Should I start off using French subtitles or not? I've heard using English subtitles is a bad idea.
