openCV Image Manipulation outside of Memory

Here is my motivation; Have an image that can not be opened in memory because it is too large for openCV dimensionally. Are there any resize-related algorithms that let you resize the image without bringing the entire image into memory.

I have already given into the fact that I will more than likely have to grab bits and pieces(color planes for me) of my TIFF data, depcompress them, run a resize algorithm on each piece and then put it all back together. Just want to make sure there isn't already something for these cases.

It actually has me wondering if there would be a need for algorithms such as these? Sibling algorithms that can execute their functionality on images without bringing them entirely into memory.
