Status of Calfw?

The very nice calendar framework (https://github.com/kiwanami/emacs-calfw) package has not been updated for a year. It has several open issues and PRs. What is the status? Abandoned? Obsoleted by another package? Should one simply use org-agenda? But if so how should I configure it to have neat 5 weeks overviews? What are you guys using for viewing your calendar?

The important thing about calfw is that it works extremely well right now -- most of the open issues are relatively minor. If it suddenly broke in a serious way, someone would likely step out of the woodwork to fix it. I'm not an expert, but the code looks pretty maintainable to me.

Plus, there's really no risk to using it. It sounds like you're using org to maintain your appointments and such. Calfw just gives you another view/views on that data.

I agree. Thanks!

There is no reason to shy away from a library that is not being actively maintained. For the most part, people who use Emacs are quite capable of making their own fixes and/or customizations.

There is nothing presently in existence that can hold a candle to Calfw.

Right. So let follow up with this question: is there a community of users which is willing and skilled enough to overtake Calfw?

I'm calfw author. I use calfw everyday. I think it is not broken yet. Recently, I have little time to maintain my OSS projects. Because calfw is somewhat complicated to me, I could not switch the context in my head smoothly. I'm sorry for leaving many issues and PRs. If someone or a community would takeover calfw, I willing to step down and would contribute as one user.

Thank you very much for your great package, and for your answer. As some others have commented, I believe that Calfw works very well and is likely to continue working for several years. So the status quo is fine. Mostly I was wondering if I was missing an obviously 'better' solution, but apparently not.

There are 6 forks, you can try to contact owners and create organization to maintain centralized fork.

It seems the developer is quite active: https://github.com/kiwanami?tab=repositories

A year is peanuts in Emacs time. Emacs is over 30 years old, and the number of breaking changes over that time are few and usually minor. Bug fixes and feature additions are of course nice for a package, but you can be pretty sure it works just as well now as it did a year ago as it's likely to do five years from now.

Wow, this is really cool.

Clearly he's seen this thread and has started putting some more work into the project: https://github.com/kiwanami/emacs-calfw/commits/master
