State of Juri in SF5
She was low tier already in S2, and now everyone in the low tier are getting buffs for s2.1 except for her (and Chun). Does Capcom believe that there's still potential for her to be a top character?
I believe if Capcom implemented these 5 changes, she would be not only viable, but considerably more fun to play:
- Allow FSE-only combo strings to be cancelled into any special, not just fuharenkyaku charges.
Currently, you can only cancel a FSE combo into QCF + K (fuharenkyaku). Even if outside VT, cr. mp would link into LK hazanshu (QCB + K), while in VT it does not. This would give her more combo finishing options. It would be specially cool if you could cancel the hazanshu itself into a fireball for a setup.
- LK fuharenkyaku (projectile) should not knockdown in V-trigger.
The knockdown is alright, but wouldn't it be more fun if you could follow up a fireball on hit with a cr.mp or cr.mk and keep the combo going? I miss her corner pressure from 4.
- MK fuharenkyaku (hopkick) becomes an overhead while in V-trigger.
Perhaps the most powerful and controversial of this set of changes. This would make Juri more deadly in her V-trigger. We have at least 2 other DLC characters with VTs that allow for extremely powerful mixups and resets, I don't see how Juri having her signature high-low mixup / reset from 4 could be that far fetched.
- Target combo (mp + b.hp / f.hp) hits crouching opponents.
This tc is the only 'bnb' that allows her combos to have similar damage to other characters (if fireball is stored). It barely is useful as it is, only being used reliably in crush counters, and useless for jumpins and any situation where the opponent is crouching. I wouldn't oppose making it so that it only hits crouching while on VT. That'd be fine too.
- More invincibility on her EX DP.
Gets stuffed a lot. That's all.
What do you think, r/sf denizens? Too broken? She doesn't need buffs? Too much fun is not allowed? Juri needs more time to be figured out? Or maybe these are fine? Let me know.
