We're moving to /r/POTUSWatch - A note of transparency.
This is an explanation post that u/Aevann's post did not provide.
Our subreddit had a very, very rocky start (more later) and continues to be assumed as "Just another anti-Trump sub". This is why we've made r/POTUSWatch. Not only is it future-proofing us for four (eight?) years down the road, it's also removing that polarizing TRUMP in-your-face title. We had reached out to several subreddits who shared our goal in having a place of discussion instead of accusations and fictions, and they were not comfortable with associating themselves with us, almost entirely because of our name. Again, we are consistently assumed to be an anti-Trump sub by people who don't give us a second thought.
The goal of this new subreddit is the same as our old one. Discussion based on policy or statements, not on loose accusations or misleading headlines. We want an environment where users can trust that this subreddit (and the moderation team) won't filter out things performed or spoken by this administration just because those things aren't within our biases. For example, if Trump were to release documents proving that he does, in fact, donate all his money to charity, this subreddit (including mods) will approve of such an action. This subreddit will not say "Who cares? It's so insignificant". That would be the kind of bias that polarizes r/EnoughTrumpSpam and r/The_Donald alike.
This new subreddit will also have many of the initial kinks worked out. The start of this subreddit, just a month and a half ago, had many flaws both in CSS and in rules. They were confusing, vague and users were unclear of why their posts or comments were removed. These rules are going to be more clear, and shorter too, as we know that many don't feel like reading an essay just to make sure their report of Sessions' Russian allegations is a post that follows these rules. Lastly, a problem, possibly the most crippling, was when we were on the list of trending subreddits, we were not careful with what we did onwards. At the time our lead moderator, u/Aevann was not on the team, and we didn't know what to do. With this subreddit we can learn from the mistakes we've made and incorporate the preemptive solutions.
Us mods hope you, users, take this note of transparency as a sign that this subreddit will be transparent in moderation and neutral in nature.
