It took me almost 30 minutes to read it aloud. I couldn't help but think some poets think longer is better.
I do love longer works.
Don't get me wrong, they're are some long poems that I love, The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, Out of the Cradle Endlessly Rocking, etc; I just can't help but wonder if this poem would've been more... clearer or more emotionally charged, if it were edited. Not by the poet, but by an editor.
this was in the first issue of Poetry i ever got in the mail, and now I'm worried the rest will let me down
