Of course Syria knew. This was a planned Putin-Trump response to a planned chemical attack designed to distract and muddy the waters in regards to KremlinGate. And here's why:

  • Russia put out publically that there would be negative consqeuences if US attacked Syria. Anything Russia puts out publically can be viewed as the exact opposite.

  • US informs Russia prior to attack to ensure that Russia would not be harmed in this attack.

  • Everyone knows Trump needs and wants a war to distract from KremlinGate.

  • Rex Tillerson's and Nikki Haley's well timed statements regarding Assad immediately prior to the chemical attack were designed to muddy the plan and make it seem that the response was based in principle opposition to the chemical attack and reactionary rather than planned.

  • The Kushner/Bannon fued is based on Kushner's view that Trump requires more popular support. This is why Bannon was ousted, and this is why Trump wants to look like a hero for his response to an inhumane attrocity.

  • Oil Prices have risen as they do when conflict in the middle east heightens. Rex and Exxon have benefited from this response. Russia too.

  • Russia's interests in Syria and access to resources remain intact. And will continue to remain intact as this episode plays out.

  • Assad will most likely remain in power through all this as an increaed US intervention that would oust him would require congressional support that Trump/Russia knows they do not have.

  • Further on the last point, Tillerson has said the following which points to Assad remaining in power despite this measured response:

"I would not in any way attempt to extrapolate that to a change in our policy or posture relative to our military activities in Syria today. There has been no change in that status,"

  • Assad had zero reason to employ such a chemical attack from a geopolitical viewpoint if not to help his friends Putin and Trump. As the New York Times put it:

The diplomatic situation had been looking bright for President Bashar al-Assad of Syria. With the help of Russia, he had consolidated his power, the rebels were on their heels and the United States had just declared that ousting him was not a priority. So why would Mr. Assad risk it all, outraging the world by attacking civilians with what Turkey now says was the nerve agent sarin, killing scores of people, many of them children? Why would he inflict the deadliest chemical strike since the 2013 attacks outside Damascus, which came close to bringing American military retaliation, averted only by a last-minute deal?

  • Trumps prior tweets against intervention in Syria in 2013 at a time when Russian influence was already upon him shows that this response is hypocritical. And shows that this air strike is the result of present political needs rather than based in any principles against attrocities.

  • Putin's overall geopolitical goals of creating refugees to continue the false narrative against globalism to destabalize the West also benefits from these actions.

  • Mark my words here: The next fake narrative that Trump/Russian Trolls push will be "Why would Trump attack a Russian ally in Syria if they are in cahoots" Wait for the eventual confirmation of my theory as this narrative gains ground on Russian propaganda networks.

No need to wait. This is already the party line on the_donald. You're completely right.

Is this really how they're spinning it already? I guess I'm not surprised, but yuck.

15
frog-in-a-blender•

Yep. Not 5 minutes after they announced the attack, they started that narrative. I unblocked the sub just to see their reaction. It was chaos, and it made me happy.

I just went there and went blind in 1 eye. Also possibly caught a disease. Ugh it's a shitshow.

The good news is a lot of the prominent supporters have come out against him now but they're all flakes so I'm sure they'll warm back up to the idea of war even after seeing whats happening.

Hopefully this will be the wake up call for the poorer ones who voted for him because they thought he wouldn't fight a war.

3
prostitutepiss•

Yes, this and the internet privacy repeal have finally put a measurable dent in his support. I have a feeling this is what Bannon knew those moves would do, and the reason he was warring with Kushner who doesn't have as good of an idea of what Trump's base wants as Bannon.

There's more to it than that even I think. Likely this gets turned into discussing of sanctions or some other major benefit.

But we'll have to wait and see. I think its a bit overzealous to say for sure what is going on. But there's reasons to be pretty skeptical of the events of this week.

14
prostitutepiss•

I think that's likely as well. There's definately more benefits to be had by Trump-Russia than I have outlined. Which would lend more credence to my theory. MSM will dig into this and we will get more informaiton that will probably surround my theory with more credence imo. But yes, of course, let's wait and see.

But let's also not jump to doing anything crazy like giving Trump credit for this response or buying into the narrative that Trump and Russia cant be in cahoots because, see, Trump attacked Russian ally.

Also, on a personal note thank you postimusmaximus. I've been following your investigation doc and have tried to spread it as far as I can. Good to run into you again.

r/news is already doing that and it's discusting.. I'm seeing post saying "this is what obama should have done!" and yet republicans stopped him from doing any thing..

Yup. Thanks for reminding me about r/news Im going to post there. Hopefully get some eyeballs on the real issue.

of course. thanks as well.

What are the odds that Putin will now pretend to be furious over the next days, and someone totally not affiliated with trump will mention that ending, or at least loosening the sanctions on russia to appease them might be an option ?

5
prostitutepiss•

A certainty that he comes out against the US attack to build the new narrative that Trump and Russia can't be in cahoots because look at what theyve done to us in Syria. Loosening sanctions will always be a goal, don't think this attack will have the effect they want in lowering suspiscions of Trump-Russia collusion to allow them to get that passed though. At least not in the short term. But let's see where these treasonous bastards take it and how the American public responds.

3
FriesWithThat•

The whole concept of Trump suddenly developing strong humanitarian feelings i.e., his statements, just doesn't hold water. This is a man who won't acknowledge and legitimize the slaughter of American children, let alone take in one chemically burned Syrian refugee. All the talking news heads are saying "obviously this has affected Trump in some profound way..." like he has suddenly developed empathy, or the ability to feel. He is shutting down humanitarian and environmental programs the world over which will cause more human suffering on a scale much larger than any single attack in Syria ever could. Even his impromptu statement - not the one that was written for him and had a hard time reading - was all about Trump, his flexibility, and the agility of his otherwise rigid mind to process new information.

6
prostitutepiss•

Exactly. We know Trump lies and lies and lies. Why take his word on his "outrage" of Syria when everything he has said about Syria and humanitarian criseses in the past contradict it. Trump does things for Trump's benefit. No one else. And Putin the same. In that view, my theory has credence. Besides the facts presented in the theory.

This reads like a conspiracy theory, and I don't want to believe it. That being said, this administration has proven time and time again in the last 11 weeks to be completely devoid of any morals or ethics, and they have been involved with Russia. This fucking administration has turned everyone into conspiracy nuts.

I'm not saying it is. I just don't want to believe that we could let people so corrupt achieve this level of power.

1
prostitutepiss•

It's a theory, of course as of yet unproven or proven. But all the evidence that backs the theory is sourced from public record and MSM outlets. Of course, let's see how it all plays out. But like you said, with this admin and the current climate we are in with KremlinGate, of course this it's a possibility. IMO, a strong possibility. Why else would Assad make such a heinous and unexplainable move to chemical attack at a time when everything is going in the right direction for him and Syria.

1
SystemoOP•

Add to that reports that the first responders said they could smell the agent from 500 meters away. Inconsistent with Sarin which is odorless. What agent was used and who deployed it? Why would Turkey say it's Sarin if it isn't Sarin?

Why do i have a feeling russia dropped the chemicals..

5
SystemoOP•

Lookin' suspicious. McMaster just said they tried to not hit buildings at the air field that are holding sarin.

https://twitter.com/mitchellreports/status/850195088051503104

"McMaster tells reporters they tried to minimize risk to Russians at the base and avoided hitting sarin gas they believe is stored there"

8
Quinnjester•

God dammit Putin...I knew him and Trump did this for distraction.

3

Hmm interesting stuff. Im guessing more and more information regarding this attack will come out soon.

Hoping that Kushner will be have found to have been the lines of communcation in coordinating this plan with his recent trips to Iraq.

3
thatsgrossew•

They might have aimed for the runway and planes in the open? Basically make the air base unable to launch planes without destroying the whole thing?

1
tasticle•

Yeah it's pretty obvious by now that Russia is framing someone for a "false flag" attack. It is just too perfect. Trump and Russia get to look like they are mad at each other and their critics get discredited.

2
Quinnjester•

I don't think Schiff will buy it honestly.

2

This was a planned Putin-Trump response to a planned chemical attack designed to distract and muddy the waters in regards to KremlinGate.

If the whole thing was planned by Trump and Putin, why would the US need to warn Russia?

2

To be able to explain why Russian forces made moves to avoid damage in this attack.

8
JellyfishSammich•

We'll see. There are reports that Trump has talked to other world leaders about setting up safe zones. Safe zones are both a dumb idea (there already are defacto safe zones in Kurdish YPG territory... but don't tell Turkey that) and a step that would go well beyond what Assad would be comfortable with.

I was just telling my wife the exact same thing. This is a classic bait and switch for the media and the masses. You forgot one additional point, it makes Obama look like a pussy and Trump like he has balls the size of Manhattan oranges.

1
prostitutepiss•

Yup. There's a lot of benefits that I didn't go over, but I have no doubts in my mind that Trump wanted this chemical attack so he could have a chance to play hero.

1
hoheyheyho•

Uh...we told the Russians it was coming.

44
travioWashington•

Even if the russians didn't tell the Syrians they controlled an area of the base. If I was a Syrian soldier and saw that the russians were bugging out, I would too. There were signs that this was coming hours before it did. Just from Malcolm Nance's twitter feed I saw that Pence had returned to the white house after dinner and the Pentagon reporters were told it was a good day to stay late. The Syrians likely knew this was coming, they just didn't know when and where.

11
NahAnyway•

Hey guys does anyone else think its weird all the Russians went to get vodka during prayers?

3
Captain-Griffen•

And that's probably a good thing.

Ultimately the situation in Syria is not going to be improve by Russian service men being bombed by the USA.

1

Well, Russia was notified in advance, so they probably notified the regime.

14
JellyfishSammich•

A pro-gov source indicated that there were zero casualties but that the base was destroyed.

The base in question was being used by Russia to fly Mi-24 attack helicopters out of to help against ISIS on the Palmyra front. So the US warned Russia in advance of the strike and Russia warned the regime.

EDIT: New reports indicate that regime soldiers and pilots were in fact killed.

10
tasticle•

It would be pretty easy via satellite to see if they moved the planes. I am guessing that will remain forever classified.

1
travioWashington•

Not necessarily. If you were a Syrian soldier and saw the russians on base bug out would you leave? I would.

1
QuietGentlemanTexas•

Of course they did. This was just a big song and dance to convince the world we're doing something. If he cared that much he would've hit their production facilities instead of an airbase with lots of open ground and hanger facilities that can be rebuilt in a month.

5

4

Misdirection play. That is what this is.

Remember that time the White House admitted that the president himself had deliberately misled the media? The media totally ate that one up. Like then, this one is working too.

3
tau-lepton•

Trump had to get Putin's approval of the plan ahead of time, no doubt Putin passed the info to Assad.

2
o_zeta_acosta•

So he managed to fuck up a military strike that I'm one hand goes against his America first with a whopping 80 million in munitions. And he manages to warn the Russians, who in turn obviously warn their allies thus further entangling the kremlingate snare a little more. What an eternal fuck up of a president... I hope they make a Mr. Bean about all of this.

No they warned russia to make sure there were no Russian casualties.

2

Iraq knew war was inevitable, but they didn't know the time and the targets. This seems to be a bit more of a collaborative situation. One is left to wonder if the cost of launching the attack justified the action.

1
MurkyPC•

No shit Sherlock.

Hillary Clinton was even speaking about the attack several hours prior to make herself look good, as if she was "predicting it". One of the tens of thousands of party loyalists probably warned her in advance that the attack was in the works, so she spoke about it publicly.

If Hillary Clinton a private US citizen was able to publicly speak about it, it's not a stretch to think a whole government has the ability to look at the comments of people like Hillary Clinton to anticipate an attack is coming.

Sounds like OP was simply saying "if an informed US citizen could predict this, it's reasonable to assume Assad was able to predict it, too". But OP mentioned "Hillary", which seems to be a trigger word for everyone these days. Would have been a more effective point without that.
