advice: Visiting Anaheim for playoffs

Update: I think I got enough to go on now. I appreciate the help.

Hi Guys,

My girlfriend and I are doing a hard road trip (21 hours one way) to see Game 2 and would like some advice on an inexpensive hotel nearby and the easiest/most convenient transportation to and from the arena. Maybe a combination of the two, relatively cheap hotel near public transit or near the arena.

You guys are the masters of your domain and hope you could share your knowledge.

Cheers,

A Flames Fan

Damn that's a long ass one way day. I really dont have any preferred recommendations on where to stay but you'll have an abundance of choices since you'll be next to the Disneyland resort. Check out the link to the right of this page for visiting Anaheim for more info as well.

I'll try and help as best I can.

From my searching, the Big A Motel appears to be the cheapest in Anaheim and it's down the street from Honda. The next cheapest being the Days Inn in Orange. Most of the other hotels in the area are a little more expensive, as they're mostly geared towards tourists visiting Disneyland and can charge a bit more. They're also probably going to be a little bit nicer as well.

Your best bet for getting to the game would be using Uber or Lyft. If you've never taken Uber or Lyft before, you can use a code that will take some money off. The main issue with using Uber or Lyft is that the surge pricing after the game can be a bit ridiculous, and often times it's smart to just go grab a beer or food while it dies down.

Also if you've never used it before, you and your girlfriend might be able to both download it, split the cost of the ride, use your promo codes, and save more money that way. Additionally, if you haven't used either one, you could use Lyft with a promo code to get to the game and Uber with a promo code to leave. Not sure if both would work, but it would be worth a shot.

Another idea would be to stay somewhere along the Orange line and ride the Metrolink train to the game. It's pretty easy as it lets off right across the parking lot from Honda Center. The one problem is that the train will not be running after the game and you'd need to find a way back.

Hey awesome! I'm a fellow Flames fan making the drive from Vancouver! This thread has been a big help. I'm not really pumped for the 22-hour drive there and another one back the next day but anything for hockey.

The Honda Center is somewhat close to Disneyland, and across the street from Angel Stadium.

If you have a car, and are looking to save some cash, you could look at Hotels/Motels in Tustin/Santa Ana/Orange and many other cities nearby. I would imagine the prices are a bit more near the arena since the theme park, convention center, and baseball stadium are close

Just depends on your transportation. If you're gonna drink, just take an uber. Probably expect a surge after the game.

As far as transportation. Public transportation isn't the best in SoCal. Sure you could take the ART, if you're staying in Anaheim. Public buses(OCTA) are slow. Honestly, the best way to get around here is your own car or Uber/Lyft.

I'm sure someone local can give you more details, but you can start here while waiting.

Yeah, I read it. Gives little more information than what I can find on google maps. Maybe I had my hopes up because the Flames sub tends to have great tidbits of information when people come asking. Public transit, popular establishments, hotels with good access to public transit, etc.

The side bar read was little more than a vague brochure.

Check out the ART Shuttle. You can buy a 1-day pass for around $5. If you stay anywhere along Katella Ave I think there should be a shuttle route that would take you directly to the Honda Center. It might stop across the street at ARTIC (transit center), but it's a short walk.

Ayres and Embassy Suites are the closest hotels, I think. Not sure what your budget is though - Ayres can get kinda pricey so you may need to look at hotels further away from Disney and Honda/Angels Stadium. I think there are some reasonably priced hotels in the City of Orange. I wish I could be more useful but I've never stayed at a hotel in Anaheim so I don't have any first-hand recommendations.

I think your best bet would be looking at the ART Shuttle map and checking out the hotels along those routes. That would be the cheapest mode of transport.

If you end up driving, I'd recommend the parking lot across the river. If you get there right before Honda opens you won't have to pay to park. I was nervous about doing that last year but I didn't get a ticket so it should be fine.

Thank you, I appreciate the help. Between yourself and u/noodlethebear I have a lot to look in to.

It might be worth adding both of your tidbits into the visitors wiki on the sidebar.

I should add that if you do go the Lyft/Uber route, from time to time the Ducks will promote a promo code, and i wouldn't be surprised to see one promoted for a Saturday playoff game.

especially now that there is an "official" Uber drop off point.
