Fellow Cordcutter/Netflixers: Five Things I Hated About Season 7 (But I Loved The Rest Of It) [contains season 7 spoilers]

Spoiler

1.) No Woodhouse: I understand the voice actor has passed but I never realized how much I enjoyed him until he was not even mentioned anymore...it's just not the same without him puttering around. Atleast last season feigned hope, season 7 acts like he did not/does not exist. Bums me out.

2.) Krieger's Unlimited Resources: While in past episodes made some sense, him having the resources and money to create his andriods while working supposedly for Cyril makes no sense to me. Seems like poor or lazy writing, this really could have been explained at some point.

3.) The Barry Episode: Not only is it bizarre (suddenly he isn't hellbent on killing archer) but his body goes against the canon description. It's just ...lazy. I get why they did what they did, it just kills the enjoyment for me by throwing in a wholly new concept of Barry suddenly (see season 2, ep13).

4.) Archer and Lana Money Troubles: Speaking of lazy writing, ep 3 features a senseless need to Archer to fulfill a pre-preschool board members wishes while Lana's parents are billionares. That episode has cause problems for a while, this is no exception (see season 6, ep 8).

5.) Ray's Super Fast Legs: I can only assume that this is a joke, and the writers are making fun of Star Wars Ep1 when the Jedis run superfast in one scene without explaination and then never do it again in the rest of the movies, despite a near constant need for that ability. If this is them joking around, pretty funny but Jesus it's a deep inside joke. If not, it makes me vehemently hate all of the writers because they are making Archer into Looney Tunes.

For point 5 at least Ray can run really fast because he has bionic robot legs. It's mentioned several times throughout several seasons. He doesn't always use them in a noticeable cyborgy way but that's nothing new to season 7

Yes, he does have bionic legs. But never before does he use them in any meaningful way. Think about when they were stranded in the desert. When they needed to swim quickly as a underwater base was being flooded. I know it's a comedy show meant to be funny and silly, but seeing this type of stuff still nags me for some reason.

Think about when they were stranded in the desert.

That was the joke tho.

but seeing this type of stuff still nags me for some reason.

You are in for a rough life if that is the case.

  1. I was bothered that he wasn't even referenced the entire season. I like that he's a plot point in this new season.
  2. In the past he's been shown to do a lot of sidework, like Conway Stern's Jedi hand and selling ISIS assets. There's definitely spin-off potential with Krieger as a mad Nazi Hitler clone scientist for hire.
  3. Definitely seemed like a random Barry episode. Not their best work at all.
  4. Agree, the endless resources of Lana's parents could theoretically not require her to work at all. A few things though, she is very proud and prides herself on being an activist and strong woman, perhaps she refuses to ask them for money. She, like every other character has self-destructive, selfish and addictive tendencies, and Archer seems inclined to try and fulfill her wishes. This plot seems like something a selfish and stubborn person would try to do. She makes Archer the voice of reason throughout most of the episode.
  5. If that's actually the intent, that is way deep. I never really thought about it. Krieger can control Ray's legs via computer, so maybe he just has them programmed to normal human or Nazi, and not superhuman.

A Krieger spin-off would be awesome
