Switched from Chrome a couple weeks ago, getting logged out of sites I would like to persist between sessions.

Solved

Title. Switched for ram usage and speed, enjoying much more. Added the normal privacy add-ons:

  • NoScript
  • UBlock Origin
  • HTTPS Everywhere

I'm also running a bit more extensive privacy settings than I was on Chrome, and can't figure out which one is causing me to lose login information between sessions as I am not familiar with them. I've tried making exceptions for a multitude of websites, and many domains within (i.e. for G-Mail - google.com, accounts.google.com, and gmail.com) and am having no luck with persistent logins.

My privacy settings are as follows: https://imgur.com/a/hDrNk

As far as I know none of the addons I have enabled delete cookies. If it is one of my settings, is it possible to keep these settings and maintain logins?

Thanks!

It's your settings. If you set FF to delete cookies on exit, it'll do that without exceptions. Exceptions are related to the setting which are next to (allowing/blocking all cookies). If you block cookies generally, then you can set an exception to allow cookies for a domain. If you accept cookies generally, then you can set an exception to block cookies for a domain. Allowing/blocking cookies generally and setting exceptions to allow/block cookies (respectively) for any domain, has no meaning.

Ahh ok, that makes sense, thank you. So essentially the rule is contradicted by the fact that it is just deleting them every-time it closes due to the setting.

I guess my next question would be, what is the best way to go around this? Should I just allow them and not worry about it? Is it possible to delete all cookies except xyz (leaving me logged in) upon exit? Is it safe to make the assumption that accepting cookies until they expire is fine, while retaining the third-party decline?

CookieKeeper can do what you want. Whether it's good for privacy to keep/delete cookies or not, it's more complicated.

Awesome, thank you for the replies.

You only keep cookies until Firefox closes, as seen by your screenshot.
