No surprises there.

Warburton as a captain went up in my estimation last Lions tour to be honest with 2 small things he did.

  1. There was 1 too few seats in Business Class on the way to Hong Kong. He offered to sit in economy class first before one of the other lads (can't remember who, English forward I think) took it instead coz Sam was carrying an injury.

  2. When he obviously and painfully tore his hammer in the second test, he still got up limped to the next ruck and stood pillar.

Say what you want about him as a player (which to be fair I don't think a lot of people don't rate him, he is very good) but he gives it everything

The other point is that he's the best in Europe at talking to referees, which is an awful lot of the job on the pitch. Compare AWJ and Best's consistent backchat, or Hartley's disciplinary record and befuddlement against Italy to Sam's calm demeanour and ability to get a ref to explain their decision.

I agree with how good he is at talking to the ref.

But I disagree with Bests backchat part. I think he has an excellent demeanour and tone.

The problem isn't that Best talks aggressively (a la AWJ), but constantly. I've seen refs ask to be left alone by him before.

I don't think he's too bad. Although, I've been exposed to Stephen Moore

Best can come off as whiney sometimes, and a bit too persistent.

Personally I think he's completely non controversial and a great choice, no one has anything bad to say about him which is important. He's a great player and good with the media.

I think most people take issue with this based on the fact that he had such a good Six Nations after dropping the captaincy, but in my opinion that had more to do with him playing a good stretch of games with Cardiff beforehand, which hasn't happened in years.

Congrats to Warbs, well deserved.

Shame Hartley might not make the cut. He would have been happy going home.
