Alright Reddit, suit or tux to prom?

A fairly straight forward question that I hope you may be able to answer. I've never been one to plan ahead for events, and I certainly did not plan on going to prom. However, a friend of my who is a girl invited me to a prom outside of our school. I accepted but my problem is... I don't have a tux. Their prom is this upcoming Saturday which leaves me 5 days to make a hasty decision. Is it okay to go to prom in a nice black suit that "mimics" a tuxedo. Is it to late to order a tux, have it fitted, and pick it up in time for prom or am I SOL?

Either one as long as it fits well.

doesnt matter really, choose a simple one if you plan to have sex. And condoms too.

As an old person who doesn't get to go to prom anymore, my advice is: Do what will make you have the most fun. If a suit will do, go with a suit. If you want the full prom experience, it's probably worth getting a tux together -- I'm sure most tux places have dealt with emergency orders before.

If it matters to you and will make your night, go for it. If you know you can have fun without going with the full tux, however, then do that. Long term, all that matters is what you get out of it. Have fun!

Looking back, my prom date wore a suit. I didn't even notice it wasn't a tux. We just danced like fools and had a good time.
