Using an external Monitor with my MacBook Pro won't work.

Hi guys. I have to ask something weird. I have a monitor the Asus Rog 27 inch. It only has a Display Port output. I however have a Displayport to HDMI Adapter. Problem is when I connect this monitor to my macbook pro it does not work. So the connection is as follows: Asus Rog Monitor - Display Port into HDMI Adapter - HDMI Cable - Macbook Pro. If I plug it in nothing appears on the monitor and under monitor settings in macOS I can't find any so it does not recognize it. Is there something I can do about it, or is it just not compatible?

For example I should have the "Identify Monitor" Button on the monitor settings, but there is nothing.

Has it something to do with the Display Port to HDMI Adapter?
