Venting about shitty dealership service
This is a little long
On our ride back from the Angel City Rally here in Georgia my Dad and I got stuck in traffic due to construction. We got off of 75N onto HWY 42 I stopped to take a picture of Indian Springs. Dad comes up behind me and asks if I hear the noise coming from his bike. It seems that with the heat from being stuck in traffic Dad's 2016 FreeWheeler was making a loud noise from the Primary like the primary chain was loose and slapping the case or there was something rattling around. We called HOG's roadside assistance. Got rerouted to another number and they dispatched a tow truck to pick dads bike up.
After an hour and a half the tow truck shows up. The tow truck driver asked what was going on and Dad starts up the bike and the driver verifies that he hears the noise and says "damn that sounds like it is about to come apart." He gets the bike on the truck and then let's dad know that HOG only allowed for $75 torwards the tow instead of The stated $100 defined by Harley Owners Group Roadside assistance program. That covered Hookup Fee and 8 miles of towing. There was a discussion about the drivers experiences with Falcons Fury Harley-Davidson and asked if there was somewhere else that dad may want to take it to we should have taken that as a bad sign. Dad says just follow the Harley Owners Group roadside assistance guidelines and take it to the nearest one.
The tow truck takes dad to Falcons Fury Harley-Davidson in Conyers. When they start to drop off the trike a Conyers Police Department car came flying down and the Officer warned dad to not leave his bike there after hours as it would not be there in the morning. She then offered to let him leave it in the PD parking lot. He then had to take uber home back home.
The next day Dad had to go back to Conyers to move the bike from the PD to Falcons Fury. He let them know what was going on with the noises from the primary. The next day(Monday) Dad gets a call saying they took off the primary cover, test rode and that nothing was wrong with the trike that more than likely he was hearing the Valvetrain so come on down and get it. Dad asked them to deliver the trike back to him. When it gets home Dad first notices that there is a huge dent on the top and side of the front fender. He asked the driver and he pulls out the paperwork Falcons Fury wrote down on the intake paperwork after dad signed it that there was damage to the bike. Dad and I knows there wasn't any dent when the tow truck picked it up Saturday. 2nd thing he notices is the bike is still dirty from the ralley, road and rain from Saturday night. Specifically the Primary cover which was supposedly removed and replaced to inspect the Primary. Usually when you remove and replace the side case or derby cover you have to clean up any dripped oil and when you do clean it you would clean the Primary sidecase and Derby cover as well. It did not appear that they did not have to do that. Now I am sceptical that they didn't do any more than start the bike and listen to it not hear any noise. Then he sees that the end caps on his Rinehart exhaust are scraped on the bottom probably from when the Trike was pulled up onto the flatbed. When dad asked the delivery driver about all of above he told dad that unfortunately everyone covers their ass and he needs to learn to do the same. Now dad is out $$ for the tow, uber ride, end caps for the exhaust, repair of the front fender, and has to wonder if the Primary, engine, or Transmission on the trike is bad.
So now my Dad is going to try to replicate the issue and take it to his dealership to let them hear it firsthand.
If it wasn't for the fear they would deny any warranty issue I would take the primary case off and take a look for myself.
