Tips for a day trip to Trestles?
So the story is this: I have a lot of time off but not a lot of cash to burn. I live in southern California and surf frequently but have never surfed anywhere north of Encinitas.
I was thinking I'd take a Tuesday and Wednesday off, load up a small tent, sleeping bag, case of beer and one of my boards and head up to Lowers. Then after sunset, head down to a campsite on the bluffs at San O. Rinse and repeat at dawn.
Availability of the campsites is not an issue (hence Tuesday/Wednesday) but I was wondering if anyone here had done this before and had any recommendations:
- San Mateo Campground vs/ Bluffs ?
- I'm assuming it would be stupid risky to bring more that one board - since whichever one I'm not using would be a prime smash and grab target?
- How crowded do things get there on the weekends?
... and any other pro tips?... Also open to other suggested spots though I'm keeping the budget small and can't go to Mexico ATM (renewing my passport).
Thanks folks!
