Assistance required. Is there a way to make an Avenger as good a striker as Rangers/barbarians/Sorcs etc (4th Edition)

Looking to create a fun, evil Avenger in an upcoming 4th edition game but I do want the ability to mete out good amounts of damage. I was wondering if there was a way to do so. Having played a barbarian previously, I know they can dish out great damage, and rangers are naturally broken as well. Can an Avenger keep up?
