Possible idea from Monte Cook's Numenera Game/Setting that could be great in D&D 5th ED.

So my friends and I recently played the Numenera game/setting and while not my favorite it did offer something I like. GM incursions. The basic idea is that as someone makes a skill or combat check the GM adds a minor complication to the action changing the difficulty or incurring a re-roll of some sort or maybe a bonus with an associated cost. This would only occur sparingly maybe once or twice per player in a session. The player benefit in Numenera is they get 1 XP which in the system is used for Rerolling a check at some later point or you could spend 1 XP to stop an incursion on you in the future. My idea is to apply this to the inspiration mechanic in D&D. As I have played inspiration is commonly overlooked as in my opinion it is more subjective and therefore harder to identify a specific moment to award the inspiration point. This way since a roll is involved the DM gets a signal to create the opportunity to earn inspiration. Any thoughts on this?
