200 hours, can't beat Olmec. Any tips?

I have over 1500 deaths, have gotten to Olmec twice, once I was without bombs and got crushed (climbing gloves, why?) and the other time I got him stuck and also ended up with no bombs. I can get to the ice caves consistently, and whenever I get hold of a jetpack/kapala/crysknife I can usually make it to the temple, but then I either get crushed by a hidden thwomp, telefragged by a crocman or some other bullshit. Any tips on Mothership/temple? Also, what is a reliable way to clear the black market without bombs?

//edit I made it! 1-2 was pretty generous with 2 bomb boxes + jetpack + mattock, but there were no altars the entire game... Even the castle entrance didn't spawn in dead-restless. I rescued every single damsel all the way to the temple except the one in the black market, then got killed by a thwomp on 4-1, I had the ankh and 20 bombs tho, so I just bombed my way through the temple and then blew a tunnel straight down and lured Olmec inside. http://scr.hu/3o5d/4brfe
