Are there any receivers that can do what I want in a multi-room wireless setup?
I'm looking to put together a system with a receiver and wireless speakers, but I'm having trouble understanding all the different systems out there and just what's compatible and what isn't.
-
A/V receiver for my main TV/speakers that has multiple HDMI ports. (simple, they all have this)
-
Wireless speakers throughout the house to which the A/V receiver can output instead of the main speakers. When we're cleaning/cooking etc it would be nice to be able to pipe the TV audio to a wireless speaker in a different room rather than cranking up the main speakers loud enough that we can hear them.
-
Wireless speakers should be able to play audio from local storage or cloud services (spotify, google music, itunes, etc)
-
It would be nice if wireless speakers could be put into groups so audio could easily be piped to a specific group or individual speakers.
Point 1, 3, and 4 all seem easy. It's figuring out a system than can do part 2 in addition to the other three that I'm having trouble figuring out. It doesn't help that so many receiver brands have their own proprietary protocols that locks you into their wireless speakers as well. The Vizio Crave line of wireless speakers seem like a decent affordable solution to my wireless speaker requirements, and I like that they work with any chromecast product, but I don't know if they can work with a receiver to solve point 2 or not.
Does anyone know if what I want to do is possible? Any recommendations or a point in the right direction would be appreciated.
