Best computer for the industry?

Working with a budget of around $3000 what's going to be my best option for a desktop to break into the industry? I primarily use Windows PCs but have some experience on apples as well and I'm not opposed to either operating system, I'm comfortable working with both. I've been reading about how Apple hasn't been focusing on their computers as much as the iPhones and that they really haven't made any drastic upgrades while Windows machines are easily more powerful and customizable these days.
