40k in Credit Card Debt from Chronic Illness
Hi all,
I'm trying to decide what to do. My situation is that I have a decent job (50k) a year but very high monthly expenses due to a number of chronic conditions that my insurance doesn't cover all the medications for. I end up with about $250 left to pay towards debt after my rent (850) utilities (300) car payment (300) insurances (150) medications (500) special expensive diet (750-1000) a month. I have around $1000 in credit card minimums. I already work extra jobs as my health allows but think I need to build savings with any "extra" money as I'm close to maxed out on these cards from using them to cover my monthly shortages while I've been unemployed/underemployed or sick. I partly have so much debt from paying out of pocket for a surgery I needed, as well as years of copays from being sick.
I'm considering debt management, but don't think I can realistically pay these total balances, debt settlement with a payment plan, and bankruptcy. Can anyone advise as to what they would do in this situation? I also have substantial student loans that I'll need to start paying now that I'm employed.
