Sentry Array - The Best Megastructure for Late Game?
I'm many, many hours into a epic game with a powerful AE, a powerful fanatic purifier race, and recently defeated the Unbidden. With the sentry array, I get galaxy-wide intelligence on fleet composition, builds, and strength, along with complete surveillance on systems. I recently used that intelligence to initiate a war in which I broke main fleet stack up into approx. 20 equally-sized fleets, corresponding to the approx. 20 planets held by my opponent. Each of those "system" stacks had a transport fleet of sufficient strength to dominate the defending armies. I then had one extra fleet that was sized "just right" to beat my enemies main stack (which I knew was 45K, thanks to the sentry). I placed all of my fleets right on the enemy's border, ready to hit their targets...
...And what unfolded was the quickest declaration of war and surrendering I have ever encountered in a stellaris game. In less than a year I had blown up every space station, mining station, research station, and observation post held by the enemy; invaded all of their planets; and destroyed their main fleet. Complete devastation and invasion. Blitzkreig on a galactic scale involving hundreds of thousands of minerals in assets.
Now, you could do that without the array, but you'd be making a bunch of guesses and probably would need to take more time. With the array, you know everything.
What do you all think? Is the Sentry Array the best megastructure for endgame? I sure think so.
