New Discussion Series: Fringe Synergies Today's Topic: #1. Skellige: Self-Wounding
Hello Gwent community!
I'm starting a new series of discussions, in which each day we'll review a different fringe synergy in the current card pool, examine the cards that support it, and come up with new ideas, tweaks, and opinions for that specific play-style or theme.
For those who are unfamiliar with the terms, synergies are usually obtained through two types of cards: Enabler cards and pay-off cards. In most cases, the pay-off cards by themselves aren't very good, but each of them has hidden potential that can be obtained through the use of Enablers.
In this Topic, we'll examine the ways Skellige can damage it's own units and benefit from that. Personally, I think this is an excellent theme to the faction, which complements the savage, cruel, and ruthless nature of the Skellige culture. Now, let's examine the mechanics. First, here is a list of all Neutral and Skellige cards that enable self-wounding in a substantial (but not disastrous) way - Enablers:
Savage Bear, Clan Brokvar Archer, Clan an Craite Warrior (and Crach an Craite Leader), Gremist, Myrgtabrakke, Holger Blackhand, Wild Boar of the Sea, Yennefer (Chironex). As we can see, the toolbox for enabling self-wounding may be substantial, but becomes much less consistent as we go down the list.
Now, here is a list of all Neutral and Skellige cards that can benefit from self-wounding - Pay-off:
Warcry, Raging Berserker, Clan Drummond Shieldmaiden, Berserker Marauder (Bear Form). As we can see, this list is laughably tiny.
Let me first add my own suggestions to the card pull (these are just rough examples):
Enabler: Clan Tuirseach Taunter: 9 strength Bronze. Ability: "Deal 1 damage to all friendly non-gold, non-damaged units".
Pay-Off: Blood-Boiled Berserker: 6 strength Bronze. Ability: "Whenever this units is weakened on your turn, it gains an equal amount of strength instead".
Okay, enough with my examples. What are your thoughts on the fringe synergy of self-wounding Skellige? Do you have ideas for new cards, or tweaks to existing ones? Or maybe the theme should be scrapped all-together?
