Monoprice Maker Select V2 PSU Plastic Smell

Discussion

Hey all, got a quick question for anyone out here with a Maker Select V2. I'm a beginner to this 3D printing world, and I've just received my first printer, the Monoprice Maker Select V2, and after making two demo prints right out of the box I started poking around here to see what other folks are doing with theirs.

Well, I've only operated it for a day or two, but from the get go I noticed that powering the thing on there was a sort of plastic smell. Nothing "foul" per se, but just a definite plastic/rubbery smell. Didn't think much of it at first, but now I'm seeing all this business about the electrical connections to the hotbed not being up to par, melting, and all that. I opened her up, but don't see any physical damage of any kind as of yet, but that scent of plastic coming from the psu is disconcerting to say the least.

So, my question is. There's no doubt somthing funky going on, but will doing the MOSFET mod (if even related) alleviate my worries, or is the fact that the PSU is already producing a bizarre smell mean it's already on the way out? Everything is working flawlessly regardless.

As a random note, the PSU appeared to be screwed together with little bits of plastic wrap stuck to the screws. So... I'm not sure if that's a contributing factor to the funk or not.
