[AL] Forgot to pick up my security deposit... last year
Hey, all,
Location is Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Last year, I moved out of my shitty college apartment and to the BIG CITY across the country. I forgot to contact my old landlord with my new address for my security deposit, partly because I sublet the unit for the last 3 months of my tenancy. As a result, I never received my security deposit. It's not big money, only around 300 bucks. I'm kind of a scatterbrained moron so I kept forgetting to actually do something about it.
Exact timeline is
-
August 2015: Lease starts
-
April 2016: Moved out and sublet.
-
July 2016: Lease ends.
Is my old landlord in any way still legally obligated to return my deposit, if I send them a letter? Are they likely to? It's probably not worth a lawsuit, but I might move BACK to Tuscaloosa in a couple of months, and could definitely see myself pursuing one in small claims for funsies if the law was on my side and I didn't have to travel.
Thanks for your time.
