College student wondering how to best manage my finances [USA]

Other

Hello reddit,

First time posting to personalfinance so forgive me for any misplaced information.

I am currently finishing my sophomore year at my university and have decided to do course work over the summer. The cost of the class would be $1,300 and I have the option of taking a $4,800 subsidized loan (0% interest until 6 months after the completion of my schooling). I was wondering if I should accept the total amount as I could collect a small amount of interest off the rest of money that I didn't use for expenses?

I am pretty well off for finances so far as I have had the majority of my schooling covered through financial aide. I expect this to be greatly reduced next year. Currently I have $8,000 dollars in subsidized loans but around $30,000 in savings (half from an inheritance and half saved from working) spread across a money market and two CDs. I feel as if I am doing something wrong by having that money sitting in low interest accounts and was wondering if there was a better way to utilize the money?

Finally, how should I plan for the additional income I will make from an internship that I will take my junior year during the summer?

Also, my current expenses include paying for my rent, food and additional college related expenses. I do not have a car.

Thanks in advance
