Strange power on / smell from PC

So... this morning my PC wouldn't boot. The power would just come on for about one sec and then would power down with a whir. I changed sockets, and it booted, but there was a strange metallic smell after it started up. Am I good? Should I do any sort of testing / troubleshooting?
