Replacing cross slide lead screw and nut on an old LeBlond, question about acceptable thread tolerance.

Hi, Im just a hard core hobbyist here but I have a 1948 LeBlond 13" and im replacing the cross slide screw. My old screw and nut has like ~20 thou of play and is worn really badly in the 2" section where most of the work is done. So, I got myself a new piece of 5/8 8 left hand acme threaded rod and now with my old nut on the new screw I've got .009.

So I guess my question is should I just live with this 9 or 10 thou of play or should I go through the trouble of having a nut made? And if I had a nut made would it even really be any better?

Also, Ive looked into anti backlash nuts but the design of the original nut makes this an unreasonable option.
