Strange table in Temple of the Moon in Darnassus

There's a strange table that stands in front of the large statue in the Temple of the Moon in Darnassus. It's ringed in blue light, and there are these weird little discs spread across it. Any ideas what they could be? Seems like there must be more to it.

Here's a picture of the table.
