Single father on 1 found out he is father of an 8 year old and the mother is seeking child support

I'm a single father I'm a single father who's ex has zero involvement in our child's life. I've been pursuing child support from her for over a year and it's been one obstacle after another. Currently she's unable to be located and served a subpoena. My son and I are surviving without the financial help of his mom, and he is adjusting very well, so overall I've ok with the situation. Recently I received a notice from the department of social services, stating that I'm the alleged father of another 8 year old. I thought it had to be impossible, so I submitted to a paternity test. It wasn’t impossible. I'm the father of an 8 year old, from a one night stand.

I just received a subpoena to appear at a child support hearing. I'm very worried. I strongly suspect the court is going to order me to pay an amount that I simply can't afford. The subpoena told me to show up with my pay stubs and tax information. Attached were some of the mother's pay stubs and some forms with her personal expenses. I wasn’t given any of these forms.

My fear is that my expenses will not be taken into consideration and I will be stuck with a payment that I can't afford. I can't afford a lawyer, so I'm not sure what I can do.

Any input is appreciated.

This is a Maryland case
