Schooling in Ontario/Canada

Been through the Career Advice section but I haven't seen a clear answer. Planning to take a course in the latter half of this year, but I'm unsure if I should go to a college or a trade school. I'm also unsure how long the course should be or what I have to look for in education. This is specifically for becoming an apprentice for pipe and structural, not schooling for engineering or inspection.

What do employers look for? etc.

My relative told me to go to George Brown but he doesn't have a real understanding of schooling or the job market.

I want to do this right the first time.
