(Possible Spoiler) Police Staking Out Bates' House

Just something I was wondering. Wouldn't the police at least have some presence at the Bates house following Norman's kidnapping. Maybe I misheard, but I thought the sheriff said something about going to his and Romero's last known locations. When he shows up after waking up in the woods, there's no one there.
