Ideas for an internal club competition
Hi there, I help run a university cycling club in the UK and have thought about having a bit of a competition in the club for a bit of fun. Think of something the Top Gear fellas would've done.
I'm thinking of having 3 separate days/stages with multiple "events" on the same ride. and having a total score at the end to decide who is the "best" cyclist. At the moment I'm thinking of using some combination the following:
-
Pittsburgh Dirty Dozen"-esque ride going up the cobbled climbs nearby, counting total climbing time
-
A ~1-2 minute ultra-steep power climb
-
A chainless descent down some of the steeper descents
-
Cafe race - ride out to a startline, and then race along one (quiet) road for about 5-6 miles to one of the cafes we regularly go to
-
Commuter race - everyone grabs their crappy commuter bikes and does a climb/time trial on them (though there's a fair variation from fixies to old caad4s with 105...)
-
Trackstanding competition (say 10 minutes minus however long you stay up), possibly doing bike "duelling" instead where you both have to stay inside a 2mx2m box
-
Tightroping - using two ropes to set a narrow course to ride down, probably about 5m long and starting at 50cm and dropping down
-
I would do a wheelie competition but hardly anyone in the club can wheelie, same for bunny-hopping which would probably end badly
-
A mechanical challenge of some sort? Maybe just taking a tyre off and swapping the tube
We're unable to do anything booze related as it would probably land us in a load of issues with the administration (clubs have been fined huge amounts over much smaller things).
If there's any little fun games/challenges you've done in the past I'll be glad to hear them. Apologies if this isn't sub-appropriate, just thought it's something that fits more into the general world of clubs and racing than standard cycling.
