What kind of javascript platform is github built on?

Is github built with plain spaghetti jquery and some 3rd party sauce?

Does it work well for github? If it does work for such big app, why wouldn't more people do this?

Finally, why does github load html content by ajax, instead of loading the page just like any other multi page app? What's the benefit of this?
