First job - event based marketing?

So, i'm a young just out of college job seeker. I definitely want a career in marketing, however I'm not really sure about how to go about it. I have an undergraduate degree in Communication and a Master's of Liberal Arts with a concentration in communication. I have one really strong lead but it sounds kinda sketchy. It's from what the company calls event based marketing. And this entails up to a year of getting $8.00 an hour plus commission. I'm willing to do this if it is a guaranteed entrance to a marketing career but for that year I'll basically be pitching pillows in Sam's Club. Is it worth it for me to do this or should I hold out for something else?
